Lola Mae Whitener Cyphus, 94, passed away Sunday April 25, 2021.
She was born September 12, 1926, Newberry, SC to the late Melvin Whitener and Ida Pearl Dawkins Whitener. Lola was a graduate of Stephens-Lee High School and later received training in cosmetology. She worked in textiles at American Enka Corporation. Lola was a member of First Church of God in West Asheville. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and reading.
In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by husband, Junior Cyphus; sisters, Lucille Garrett, Estelle Whitener, Regina Whitener; brothers, James Whitener, Rev. Albert Whitener and Lonnie Whitener.
Left to cherish her memory are stepchildren, Coleman Sibert, Gerald Sibert, Hattie Richardson, Florida Freeman, Carolyn Sibert, Annie Ruth Griffin, Andrea Sibert, Jessie Beck and Sheila Sibert; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in the chapel of Ray Funeral & Cremation Service. Public viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance will be limited to 200. Attendees must wear a face covering, sanitize hands and social distance.
