Liler F. Collette, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, NC.
"Cookie" as she was fondly called by family and friends, was a native of Asheville and a daughter of the late William F. Collette and Delores C. Collette. She attended the Asheville city schools and was a graduate of Asheville High School Class of 1970. Cookie attended Blanton's Business College and Asheville Buncombe Tech receiving training in cosmetology. Her professional career in cosmetology included employment with Hair Plus in Asheville and Winston-Salem and JC Penny Hair Salon, Winston-Salem. She served as an instructor with Empire Beauty School and Dudley Beauty School.
Cookie loved to dance and loved music; rhythm and blues and jazz. She and Antonnette would attend jazz festivals, art events and plays. She enjoyed watching movies with grandson, Charles. Cookie especially enjoyed Christmas with the family. A little known fact is that Cookie was an excellent seamstress.
She was a former member of Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church during the pastorate of the late Rev. B.F. Brewer. In Winston-Salem, she was a member of First Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Paul Robeson Ford. Cookie was an active church member and served on the David R. Hedgley Fellowship Memorial Choir, Women's Service Council and Women's Progressive Club.
Surviving family to cherish her beautiful life include daughter, Antonnette Collette (Shannon Williams), grandson, Charles Collette; brother, Tierron L Madden; sister, Constance L. Proctor (Cornell); good friend and travel partner, Minnie Ervin; several cousins; other relatives and friends.
