The Book of Life was opened to Janie Mae Blake Briscoe on November 12, 1926 in Chester County, SC. Janie reached her sunset on December 12, 2020 at Pelican Health Asheville, Swannanoa, NC.
Janie Mae was born to the late John White Blake and Lucille Simpson. She was preceded in death by husband, John Henry Briscoe; children, Henrietta Briscoe and Mary Elizabeth Briscoe Galloway; son-in-law, Obadiah Galloway; siblings, Freddy Blake and Geneva Peay.
Janie attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC and served in the order of Eastern Stars at Progressive Chapter No. 501 for 67 years. She was a Past Worthy Matron and held various offices of the chapter with high esteem.
Janie Mae gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She served at Mt. Zion and Thomas Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AMEZ) Church for over 60 years as a choir member, Missionary Board and various other positions as needed for the church until her declining health and death.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories grandchildren, Charles L. Davis, Mary Martha Galloway of Black Mountain, NC and Amanda Lucille Galloway of Arlington, VA; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Ms. Bernice Little of Washington, D.C.; niece, Mary Carson Brown (Gerald); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friend to the family, Rev. Deborah Wilkerson and her family.
Public viewing will be from 12:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, December 16, 2020 in the chapel of Ray Funeral & Cremation Service. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 17, 2020 also in the chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance will be limited to 50. Attendees must wear a face covering, sanitize hands and social distance.
