Hansom Floyd

June 26, 1930 ~ February 11, 2022 (age 91)

Our beloved and cherished family matriarch, Hansom Christopher Floyd, was called home to glory on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the age of 91 after battling an illness. The family is deeply saddened by her missing presence, but joyful that she is no longer in pain, and finally seeing the face of Jesus who she called on to do his will. She was and always will be immensely treasured.

Hansom was born to her parents Walter and Anita Avery Christopher in Asheville, North Carolina, on June 26, 1930, where she was raised and spent a majority of her life. After proudly graduating from Stephens Lee High School in 1948, she started her career at Square D Electrical Manufacturer, where she progressed until retiring after more than 30 years of service. Hansom met the love of her life and married George Edward Floyd on September 2, 1962. They had 20 blissful years of marriage, in which they shared their joys of music, traveling, spending time with family and worshipping together, before George passed away on September 3, 1982.

Hansom was a very caring soul who was dedicated to her family. She spent years nurturing and caring for family members in their time of need, and fostering the development of her nieces and nephews. Hansom was a blessing to them all. She was known for providing continuous words of affirmation to her loved ones and everyone she met. Hansom was a very active member in her churches, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and Holy Tabernacle of God and Christ in Asheville, North Carolina. She was a very good cook and baker, known especially for her delicious cakes and homemade ice box jelly.

In 2007, Hansom relocated to Decatur, Georgia, to reside with her sister, Mary Evans.  They spent hours together laughing about Asheville and telling stories of times with family and friends, near and far. Hansom spent hours playing hymns on her keyboard and singing for all. Also, she became a member of Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where she served on the Motherboard.

Hansom is preceded in death by her father, Walter Christopher; mother, Anita Avery Christopher; brothers, James Sherman Morton, Willie Leroy Christopher and Vincent Walter “Bubba” Christopher; husband, George Edward Floyd; and maternal grandmother, Hansom Boozie Avery. She is survived by her brother, Larry Christopher; sister, Mary Evans; sister-in-law, Shirley Austin; nephews, Andre Christopher, Rodney Christopher (Shandra), and William Evans; nieces, Belinda Austin, Channelle Christopher Marsh (Randy), and Christi Craig (David); great-nephews, Rodney Christopher II (Shainalyse), Brandon Muse, Jordan Muse, Trey Christopher (Ayannah) and Kennedy Stinson; great-niece, Devon Craig; great-great nephew, Syx Christopher; great-great niece Milani Christopher, and a host of more nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, church and community members.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Friday, February 18, 2022 in the chapel of Ray Funeral & Cremation Service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
