Clara Mae Mills was the daughter of Michael and Eliza (Allen) Mills. She was born and raised in Western North Carolina and spent years living and working in Henderson and Buncombe Counties. For most of Clara’s adult life, she worked as a domestic for different families in the area. She was an accomplished cook well-known for her delicious pastries and soul food dishes. Prior to her prolonged illness, Clara was an active member of the Stanford Chapel AME Zion Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Most recently, she resided at and was well cared for by the staff at Universal Healthcare in Fletcher, North Carolina.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Eliza, and two brothers, Ben Mills and his wife Annie Laura, and Fred Mills and his wife Martha, and Esther, Walter’s wife.
She is survived by brothers, Walter F. Mills and Joe L. Mills (Hattie), nieces Melinda Mills Bolling (Anthony) and Mary Jo Mills, nephew Jerome Conley, great-niece Aliza Bolling, great-nephews Absalom Bolling and Darren Conley, and a host of family and loved ones.
Visitation will be from 4:00-5:00 pm Saturday, September 4, 2021 in the chapel of Ray Funeral & Cremation Service. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Stanford Chapel AME Zion Church. Public viewing will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Patty's Chapel Cemetery. Attendees and visitors must social distance and wear masks.
