Annie Bell Sims McClure passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020. She was born on October 17, 1918 in Westminster, SC to the late Marion J. Sims and Lula Walker Sims.
During Annie’s childhood and young adult years, she grew up on a farm with her parents and siblings between Walhalla and Westminster, SC. At an early age, she joined Choehee Baptist Church in which her grandfather helped establish. She moved to Asheville in 1955 and later joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she attended until her health began to decline.
Annie enjoyed planting gardens and canning vegetables for herself and others. She used her talents to serve her community by feeding the elderly, children and others out of her own kitchen. She was always a pillar and servant of the community throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, Annie was preceded in death by husband, James E. McClure I; grandson, Michael T. McClure II (Mike Mike); great-granddaughter, Candise Newson; sisters, Birdie S. Bowers, Learlie S. Williams, Janie S. Mack, Ella S. Moss, Bessie S. Wright, Willette S. Glenn, Marie S. Hoover, Evelena S. Jones; brothers, T.S. Sims and Herbert Sims.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, James E. McClure (Virginia), Johnny W. McClure, Sr. (Celeste), Michael T. McClure, I (Kim); daughters, A. Sue McClure-Lynch, Shirley M. McClure; sister, Olivia S. Chapman; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
There will be a public viewing Friday, October 2, 2020 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm in the chapel of Ray Funeral & Cremation Service. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, October 2, 2020 also in the chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all attendees must wear a face covering and practice social distancing protocols. Live-streaming of the service will be available here on the website.
