Paul Edward Wilson, Sr. 67, transitioned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.
A native of Shelby, NC he was the son of the late Landon (LP) Poston and Mary Wilson Taylor. He was a graduate of Shelby High School, Class of 1970. Paul enlisted in the US Army and graduated with honors from the US Mortuary College. Paul attended and graduated from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service and received a degree in funeral service and embalming. He relocated to Asheville and associated with the Jesse Ray Funeral Home, receiving training under the mentorship of the late Jesse G. Ray, Sr.
In 1991, Paul became manager of Pilgrim’s Funeral Home, Hendersonville, NC. After the closing of Pilgrim’s Funeral Home, Paul established and operated Wilson Funeral Directors until health problems in 2015. Paul was proud to be a funeral service professional. His passion was providing quality and personal service to families of Hendersonville, Brevard, Tryon and surrounding areas. Paul was a member of the North Carolina Funeral Directors and Mortician’s Association. After declining health, he continued to be a mentor to young funeral directors as his passion was serving people.
Paul was a collector of die cast cars, trucks, buses and trains. His future plan was to open a die cast store.
On April 19, 1992, Paul was united in marriage to Jennifer Allman Wilson.
He was also preceded in death by grandmother, Josh Poston and brother, Michael Wilson.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are son, Paul Edward Wilson, Jr., Plantation, FL; daughter, Tiffany Jackson, Las Vegas, NV; step-daughter, Servetta Johnson McDowell; sisters, Mary Virginia Myers, Silver Spring, MD and Donna Pitte, New Orleans, LA; brother, James C. Taylor (Cindy), Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Kyren Gibson, Makayla McDowell, Kareem McDowell, Jr. and Stephanie Wilson; great-grandson, Kyng Lyons Gibson; God-parents, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Dockery, Shelby, NC; God-mother, Betty Bradford, Hendersonville, NC; other relatives and friends.
The Wilson Family is especially grateful to the staffs of Davita Hendersonville Dialysis Center, Charles George VA Medical Center, Laurels of Hendersonville, Mission Hospital, Advent Health, Four Seasons Palliative Care and Out 'n' About Transportation Service. We will always remember the personal care and attention provided to Paul. Thank you for your compassion.
